SAT: Preparing and Taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test
What is the SAT?
The SAT is an exam that many colleges nationwide recognize and use as a factor in assessing applicants.
This exam consists of three sections- a reading section, a writing and language section, and a math section (that is split into a calculator and no calculator sections).
Taking the SAT
If you are attending school in-person, you can talk with your academic counselor to see if your school participates in SAT school day, where you might be able to take the SAT during a school day (instead of going to normal classes). This option allows you avoid taking the SAT on a Saturday.
You can also go to Collegeboard SAT Registration, where you can create an account, search for SAT test centers near you, and sign up to take the SAT.
Check out SAT Test Day by college board to see what things you should bring on test day!
Sat Fee Waiver
As a foster youth, you are able to have the fee for the SAT waived for you, so that you don’t need to worry about paying to take the exam.
To get your SAT fee waived, talk with your academic counselor. If you are homeschooled, you would need to contact your local high school counselor.

SAT vs ACT
The SAT and ACT are both college prep exams, but they do have differences. One of the best ways to learn the differences is to talk with friends who have taken each exam.
