Bringing Sunshine and Support: Spanish River Sharks Assemble Sun Care Kits

Sofia Scher and the Spanish River Sharks Chapter of STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids, in collaboration with their school’s DECA Club, took action to protect children from the sun’s harmful rays by assembling and distributing Sun Care Kits for kids in foster care.

Each kit included sunscreen, water bottles, new long-sleeved clothing, rash guards, hats, and handwritten letters offering words of encouragement and support. This thoughtful initiative helped ensure that foster children have the essentials they need to stay safe and comfortable outdoors.

With over 30 students participating, this project was a true team effort, bringing together young leaders committed to making a meaningful difference in their community.

Why This Matters

Sun protection is an important but often overlooked necessity for children, especially those who may not always have access to protective gear. By providing these essential sun care items, the Spanish River Sharks and DECA Club helped foster children enjoy outdoor activities safely while also reminding them that they are cared for and supported.

How You Can Help

At STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids, we believe in the power of community and collaboration to make a difference. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Donate sun protection essentials such as sunscreen, hats, or protective clothing to foster care organizations.

  • Organize a sun care drive at your school or workplace to help children stay safe outdoors.

  • Join or start a chapter to lead service projects that provide meaningful support to foster children.

Thank you to Sofia Scher, the Spanish River Sharks, and the DECA Club for coming together to promote sun safety and kindness through this impactful project.

Share this story to inspire others to support children in foster care and help provide essential items that promote health and well-being.
